[ He can wait and keep himself busy at the garage in the meantime. He'd prefer to see her now, it just doesn't feel right to ask her for that when he's been so difficult to pin down lately himself. Sure he's got completely understandable reasons for it, but he's felt selfish about asking for Clary's time for a while now. Knowing how she felt, knowing what he couldn't give back to her, even if she'd never asked him to give up anything for her. It wasn't fair, whether that was his fault or not, and just because he's on his own now all of that doesn't just go away.
It does leave a lot of questions about where they stand now, and despite having too much time to think lately he's not sure he has the answers to any of them, but he's confident that they'll figure it out.

[ There are definitely a lot of questions and though Clary doesn't expect anything from him, for anything to change — especially at this point — she has, admittedly, caught herself imagining it. More than once. But then, that isn't exactly different from before Gwen left; she'd inadvertently start imagining what it would be like if they were in New York together, or exploring the stars together.
But even in the times they've talked about the what-ifs, daydreamed together about birthday trips to the different worlds he's seen, she never pushed for anything more here and now.
Were things different, were they not in a city that would take every opportunity to try and tear them apart and throw them into bed with other people, maybe Clary would struggle more with her jealousy and the small bursts of disappointment that she couldn't have more of him. But they're not different, and she is happy just to have Poe in her life the way she does. Genuinely. She's never told him that just to make him feel less guilty.
She's fully confident that they'll navigate these new uncertainties somehow, just like they have everything else this place has thrown at them. The most important thing to her right now is the Poe makes it through this in one piece, that he's still standing on the other side of it. The rest will come. ]
[ It's such a seemingly innocuous conversation, but they both know what this is. While it was hard, opening themselves up to these feelings Poe's honestly glad that they did. If they'd tried to keep everything all bottled up they'd have to get through that too before they even tried to tackle what they're currently facing.
He's thought about it, how things would have been different if they hadn't told each other how they felt, and it's easy to see how it would have been worse if Clary had reason to wonder if his feelings were just from the fact that he's lonely now. He knows that she trusts him, still, that would be a hell of a thing to have hanging over them. As it is the feelings haven't changed, but with the drastic change in circumstances what they do about them could. ]
It's nice, right? Like at least there's one place in this city where we're the boss.
