Yeah, well, what better way to distract people than music and free drinks? [ It's unsettling, though, knowing that no one in the Up knew what was going on. Though at least now she knows why no one else came to help. ]
It was like a warzone down there. The guards and the gangs were fighting, and people kept getting caught in the middle. Others were totally cut off from their homes and businesses. I holed up in a freaking garage with a bunch of other people. [ Clary sighs, the sound of chatter from groups she's passing audible as well. ] It was so crazy, Jace.
It was a pretty lousy distraction. Obviously we knew something was up, they just wouldn't tell us. So music and drinks and drugged bubbles and fog and snap bracelets. Pretty much the norm. Mostly I was spending my time sitting on Magnus and Alec so they didn't get themselves arrested trying to force the issues with the SIN guards.
[ He listens closely, frowning. ]
They just left you all to fend for yourself down there? Are you kidding me? That's ridiculous. You're a Dom, they're supposed to be, I don't know, making sure you're okay. Not make ALL of us feel helpless.
[ He knew that wasn't how it actually worked. Just look at how stressed Magnus had been and he'd been in the Up. It still makes him angry though. The indignation and anger echo in his voice. This City was incredible. Leave half its Citizens to fend for themselves in a civil war and make the other half get drunk and party. ]
I'm impressed if you were actually able to do that. They both rival me for most stubborn out of all of us, I think. [ Jace, too, could be put in that list, which is probably why it's good he was keeping them in check. ]
There weren't enough guards to handle everything, let alone try to protect any Doms that got stuck down there. [ Her designation even made her more of a target — has in the Down for a while now — but that's not important enough to point out right now. ] But like I said, I found someplace to stay, and I had a friend watching my back to make sure I didn't do anything too stupid. It's not like I was totally alone.
And even if I was, you know I can take care of myself.
Yeah, well unluckily for them, I can out stubborn them both when I'm in the mood. I was just exhausted afterwards. If nothing else, it distracted me from doing too much worrying and being reckless on my own.
[ Jace knew damn well he would have joined them otherwise. ]
Well then I guess all the guards were up here, because there were plenty to guard the train stations, the elevator, and enforce that we all enjoyed ourselves at the parties, or else. [ Jace really wants to ask more about this friend, because he hasn't been exactly keeping track of what Clary has been up to. Not that she needs him to. Not that he has any right to. It's just. It was Clary. ]
Oh believe me. I know you can. I probably should feel more sorry for anyone who messed with you down there.
Add that to the list of reasons I'm glad you all got stuck together. [ It would've been nice having another more familiar face with her, but Clary's thankful she managed to find Finn and Poe. She could've been left completely alone, a target on her back because of her designation.
She lets out an annoyed huff. ] They really have their priorities straight, don't they? [ But maybe that was the point: keeping more of the LIERs from finding out about what was going on. They seem awfully obsessed with controlling everything else; unrest in half of the city is probably something they'd want to hide. ] Should I even ask what the "or else" was?
No, not really, but I made it through alright. [ Any injuries were easily healed with her healing rune, too. ] Other people weren't so lucky. It would've been one thing if they were just fighting each other, but it got to the point that people who weren't even trying to get involved got hurt. [ That, of course, is what had her on the streets more than anything. ]

[ Jace hums a little and his laugh is wry. ]
Oh I think they have their priorities just where they want them. They just happen to be really fucked up priorities.
