Name: Clarissa Fairchild-Morgenstern, but she goes by Clary Fray (it's a long story involving her and her mom being in hiding from a dad she thought was dead but is actually very much alive and super evil)
Door: Left (but with a TDM door pass to make her a Dominant, please!)

Canon: Shadowhunters
Canon Point: After showing Jace the box of baby things that belonged to Clary's brother and which Jocelyn kept (end of 1x12, “Malec”).

Age: 18
Appearance: Still shot

History: Clary Fray on the Shadowhunters wikia.
Personality:
BRAVE ( + ) Despite being faced with unknown dangers in a world she's unfamiliar with, Clary jumps headfirst into dangerous situations - sometimes with very little forethought - in an effort to right wrongs and save the people she loves. Though she is almost certainly terrified of the situation, she musters courage and pushes forward, such as when she went to face the Silent Brothers to uncover her lost memories in early season one. She had known of the Shadowhunters and the Downworld for a day or two, maximum, and yet threw herself at creatures that could have very easily killed her in an effort to recover her memories and find her kidnapped mother. Although she may hesitate, Clary eventually pushes aside worries and doubts to get things accomplished when lesser people might give up.

COMPASSIONATE & LOYAL ( + ) Time and time again, Clary makes it abundantly clear that family and friends are the most important thing to her, to the extreme of risking her life to save a loved one. When she cares for someone, no matter what has transpired between them, she will step up to help or protect them, no matter the cost. When attempting to retrieve her memories from the demon Magnus had fed them to in an effort to locate the Mortal Cup and stop Valentine, Clary sacrificed said memories and risked the safety of mundanes and the Downworlders alike to save Jace when his life seemed to be in danger. Time and time again, she puts herself into dangerous situations to save the people she loves, no matter how bleak or low the odds.

MORALLY DRIVEN ( + ) Clary did not grow up as a Shadowhunter and as such does not have an ingrained sense of duty to protect mundanes, as most Shadowhunters do. Despite this, Clary fights and risks her life time and time again to protect the mundanes because she wants to. More than that, she is not clouded by the Shadowhunter dislike of Downworlders and fights for their protection and rights as well. This is likely due to a combination of her upbringing in the mundane world and the fact that her best friend and closest thing to a father are both Downworlders, and people she fights for or alongside regularly.

OBSTINANT ( ) Although her strong-headedness can sometimes be a good thing for Clary, it more often than not gets her into a lot of trouble. Even when warned about the risks by those more knowledgeable than her about the situation, when Clary sets her mind to something, it is nearly impossible to stop her. Despite their protestations and the danger it posed to them and the Accords, Clary forced Jace, Alec, and Izzy to join her in infiltrating the vampire lair to retrieve Simon when he had been taken as a bargaining chip for the Mortal Cup.

UNCERTAIN ( ) Multiple times throughout the show, after Clary’s true life as a Shadowhunter is revealed to her, she struggles with where she belongs and who she belongs with. After losing Jace to Valentine when everyone believed Jace was Clary’s long-lost brother, Clary blamed herself (as did Alec) for all of the issues and problems the Institute faced. It left her feeling out of place in the Shadowhunter world, but she also struggled with the fact that she could never return to the Mundane world, either, leaving her torn between two worlds and two lives, neither of which felt right. She also struggled greatly with her feelings regarding Simon and Jace after it was revealed that Jace was not, in fact, her brother. It took a trip to the Seelie Court and a game from the Seelie queen for her to even partially acknowledge her true feelings.

IMPULSIVE ( ) Clary is prone to not always thinking things through, leading mainly by her heart and emotions instead of her head, even when people around her are offering arguments against a specific course of action. She doesn’t always consider the consequences of her actions until it is too late. This is especially prominent when Clary is grieving or has suffered a huge loss/something has shaken her to her core. When her mother is killed, Clary seeks out a powerful warlock to make a blood oath to bring her mother back, despite Magnus’s protests. It isn’t until the oath is made and Clary starts facing some of the consequences that she realizes it was a mistake.

Powers and Abilities:
Shadowhunter-specific:
  • Nephilim physiology: All Shadowhunters are also Nephilim, humans born with the blood of the angel Raziel. This angelic blood gives them exchanged strength, stamina, speed, agility, and coordination as well as other abilities listed below.

  • Runic magic: All Shadowhunters/Nephilim have the ability to draw runes on themselves, other Shadowhunters, and physical objects with the use of a stele (a metal-based tool made of adamas, a heavenly metal found beneath the Shadowhunters' home country; it is silver, slender twig/wand-like, and styled differently depending on the user/owner). Runes are markings used by Shadowhunters to fight against demons and are burned into the skin or object via the steles. Known runes are recorded in the Gray Book, which is studied by all young Shadowhunters, and offer a variety of different mental and physical boons/enhancements.

Most runes need to be either utilized or retraced on a regular basis to ensure that they do not fade, although there are some such as the wedding runes that are permanent. A lot of them require activation for the enhanced abilities to take effect but some are a one-time-application sort of thing that are always "on," for lack of a better term. To the layperson, these simply look like symbolic tattoos, the color of which differ depending on the canon point (season one, everyone's runes are a deep red, almost scar-like color; in seasons two and three, the runes are suddenly black with no canonical explanation).

As of her canon point, these are the runes Clary has.

Nerfing suggestion: Any abilities enhanced by the runes will be limited in scope if they border on game-breaking, and any that could have effects on another character will not be utilized by Clary without prior discussion.

  • Use of heavenly weapons: Shadowhunters have forged various weapons throughout their history that only work for Nephilim, such as seraph blades and witch lights. For anyone that does not have angelic blood, these items are more or less paperweights; for Shadowhunters, they activate upon touch.

  • Stronger angelic blood: Content warning: Discussion of experimentation on a pregnant woman.

Because of experimentation done on her mother while she was pregnant, Clary has pure blood from another angel, Ithuriel, in her bloodstream. This stronger angelic blood gives her the ability to (1) "create" new runes that are not recorded in the Gray Book, shown to her in visions from the angels; (2) form wings of angelic, golden light which kills her brother, who was injected with demonic and angelic blood; (3) gives her a connection with Jace Wayland, Jonathan Morgenstern, and the angel Ithruiel that other Shadowhunters do not share.

Nerfing suggestion: Clary will not be able to access any of these additional abilities unless I decide to canon update her, as she does not know of them, nor of the stronger angelic blood inside of her. This is something discovered as the show progresses but as they're technically latent abilities as of her canon point, I wanted to include information on it. If she's canon updated, I'll provide nerfing suggestions for limiting their use.

  • The Sight: Shadowhunters, because of their angelic blood, are able to see through glamours or magical illusions (most of the time). For example, Clary goes to a bar to seek out some vampires with Jace and at first, it seems like a normal, crowded bar with people talking and some making out; upon prompting from Jace, Clary focuses through the glamour and sees many of the patrons are actually vampires instead of mundane (humans without supernatural abilities) and some are even feeding on people/drinking blood.

Since Clary spent most of her life ignorant of the Shadow World and her true nature, she's not always the best at seeing through the glamours without prompting from someone else.

Nerfing suggestion: Seeing through glamours or other magical spells characters might use to hide their true identities will be ploted out/discussed beforehand; Clary will not be able to see through anything without prior permission.

  • Hiding of physical objects: Some Shadowhunters have additional, uncommon abilities, some of which can even be passed down through families. Clary and her mother are both able to hide physical objects in drawings or paintings by pressing them into paper and then extracting them by reaching into the paper to withdraw them. When the item is hidden, it looks like a flawless part of the artwork; only the person who put the item there would know it's hidden.

Canon never specifies the limitations of this ability as far as size/weight/etc of the item being hidden, but it's only ever shown to be items no larger than an 8"x11" sheet of paper (e.g.: a chalice and a biscotti).

Nerfing suggestion: Clary honestly probably won't use this too much in Duplicity, but when/if she does, it will only be for smaller items as are shown in canon. So: nothing that wouldn't fit within an 8"x11" sheet of paper.

General:
  • Artistic: Clary is a talented artist, specifically with drawing and painting.

  • Fighter: In the short few weeks since learning about her true heritage, Clary has started training in hand-to-hand and weapons combat. While she is far from being a master of either, she is a very quick learner and has picked up various different skills.

Inventory:
    1. The Fairchild Stele, a tool that allows Clary to draw/re-draw runes. This one in particular was given to her by her mother on her birthday and is basically treated as a family heirloom.
    2. A Seraph blade, a weapon made of adamas (a mystical stone) whose blade can be activated by any Shadowhunter/anyone with angelic blood. Otherwise, it's just a metal tube/handle.
    3. A witchlight, a flat, gray stone that emits a pure white glowing light when held by Shadowhunters. Basically a fancy flashlight rock.
