[ A series of texts that either come in very spottily, or don't come in at all until after the Network becomes unjammed. ]
Hey are you okay? Something's going on. Are you in the Up? Clary, let me know if you're okay. Ok, there's something going on at the ████████, and Magnus can't get any portals to work to the Down. Have you seen Izzy? Or maybe Ragnor? Angel, Clary, please be okay. Let me know when you get this? Alec and Magnus are going crazy with worry, Alex's boyfriend is down there. I don't know what to do. The SIN guards aren't ███████ ██ ████ ███ ████████. The Up is throwing a fucking party right now this is ridiculous. PLEASE let me know if you get these. I need to know you're alright. I am very drunk. I am very sorry I am your brother. You deserve better family. When they ███ that stupid fucking █████████ I am going to come find you and carry you back home.
[ The messages come through out of order but in quick succession once the jammers are removed, which is only minutes before she finds out the elevator is working again. Already heading that way, Clary reads through each text as they come, confused about the sequence of them — but it's the one he sent when he was drunk that really makes Clary frown.
Rather than responding with a text, especially at the threat of being found and carried out, she calls Jace the moment she steps off the elevator in the Up. (Which takes longer than it should, annoyingly enough.) Even as the line is ringing, she's heading in the direction of the Up apartments, figuring heading to her place is the best bet until she finds out where Jace is. ]
[ The line doesn't ring long before it is abruptly picked up and Jace's voice can be heard faintly saying hello and then some fumbling sounds before his voice comes back clear and close. ]
Clary? Sorry, dropped the device. Are you okay? Are you hurt?
[ The frantic worry is clear in Jace's voice, even through the relief he's feeling at finally, finally getting contact with her. ]
[ There might've been some minor injuries sustained throughout the two weeks, but they weren't anything to worry about, even without her healing rune.
Her tone is more irritated than anything, although not at him. In fact, it shifts to something softer, relieved as well to be speaking to him after so long. ]
Are you alright? Did you get in touch with Izzy and Ragnor? [ She actually wasn't even aware the latter was in the city in the first place. ]
[ The relief in Jace's voice is palatable. He was clearly going out of his mind. ]
Izzy texted Jace. Ragnor came home and is okay. Alec's boyfriend came over. Everyone seems to be okay, just exhausted. We couldn't get down there, Clary, they had it completely blocked off. They had a fucking party up here like nothing was wrong.
Yeah, well, what better way to distract people than music and free drinks? [ It's unsettling, though, knowing that no one in the Up knew what was going on. Though at least now she knows why no one else came to help. ]
It was like a warzone down there. The guards and the gangs were fighting, and people kept getting caught in the middle. Others were totally cut off from their homes and businesses. I holed up in a freaking garage with a bunch of other people. [ Clary sighs, the sound of chatter from groups she's passing audible as well. ] It was so crazy, Jace.
It was a pretty lousy distraction. Obviously we knew something was up, they just wouldn't tell us. So music and drinks and drugged bubbles and fog and snap bracelets. Pretty much the norm. Mostly I was spending my time sitting on Magnus and Alec so they didn't get themselves arrested trying to force the issues with the SIN guards.
[ He listens closely, frowning. ]
They just left you all to fend for yourself down there? Are you kidding me? That's ridiculous. You're a Dom, they're supposed to be, I don't know, making sure you're okay. Not make ALL of us feel helpless.
[ He knew that wasn't how it actually worked. Just look at how stressed Magnus had been and he'd been in the Up. It still makes him angry though. The indignation and anger echo in his voice. This City was incredible. Leave half its Citizens to fend for themselves in a civil war and make the other half get drunk and party. ]
I'm impressed if you were actually able to do that. They both rival me for most stubborn out of all of us, I think. [ Jace, too, could be put in that list, which is probably why it's good he was keeping them in check. ]
There weren't enough guards to handle everything, let alone try to protect any Doms that got stuck down there. [ Her designation even made her more of a target — has in the Down for a while now — but that's not important enough to point out right now. ] But like I said, I found someplace to stay, and I had a friend watching my back to make sure I didn't do anything too stupid. It's not like I was totally alone.
And even if I was, you know I can take care of myself.
Yeah, well unluckily for them, I can out stubborn them both when I'm in the mood. I was just exhausted afterwards. If nothing else, it distracted me from doing too much worrying and being reckless on my own.
[ Jace knew damn well he would have joined them otherwise. ]
Well then I guess all the guards were up here, because there were plenty to guard the train stations, the elevator, and enforce that we all enjoyed ourselves at the parties, or else. [ Jace really wants to ask more about this friend, because he hasn't been exactly keeping track of what Clary has been up to. Not that she needs him to. Not that he has any right to. It's just. It was Clary. ]
Oh believe me. I know you can. I probably should feel more sorry for anyone who messed with you down there.
Add that to the list of reasons I'm glad you all got stuck together. [ It would've been nice having another more familiar face with her, but Clary's thankful she managed to find Finn and Poe. She could've been left completely alone, a target on her back because of her designation.
She lets out an annoyed huff. ] They really have their priorities straight, don't they? [ But maybe that was the point: keeping more of the LIERs from finding out about what was going on. They seem awfully obsessed with controlling everything else; unrest in half of the city is probably something they'd want to hide. ] Should I even ask what the "or else" was?
No, not really, but I made it through alright. [ Any injuries were easily healed with her healing rune, too. ] Other people weren't so lucky. It would've been one thing if they were just fighting each other, but it got to the point that people who weren't even trying to get involved got hurt. [ That, of course, is what had her on the streets more than anything. ]

Oh I think they have their priorities just where they want them. They just happen to be really fucked up priorities.
